Black sugar scrubs are quite popular nowadays as they do quite a great job exfoliating your skin. And all of us know how important exfoliating is since it gets rid of all of these flaky dead skin cells, that not only make your skin look dry and rough, but also makes your makeup look cakey and contributes alongside with the dirt to clog your pores, and thus cause more pimples and blackheads, I'm sure nobody wants this.
Personally, I have a dehydrated skin which means that my skin tends to produces more dead skin cells than the average person, and thus I need to exfoliate more often than those of you who have normal or oily skin. That's why, black sugar scrubs have been my dear friends for quite sometime now.

The two black sugar products I have used the most are Skinfood Black Sugar Wash Off Mask and Klairs Black Sugar Face Polish, and since they are some of the most popular scrubs on the marked, I decided to do a little comparison today. (let me know if you want me to review them separately for you guys ^^)

So here is a little comparison:

Here is a little close up:

Skin Food Black Sugar Wash Off Mask
Klairs Black Sugar Facial Polish
Price (in Korea)

10500won
Avalability

Only in Korea, or online on wishtrend and maybe some other online stores (less than a handful)

Scent

The size of the particles

Harshness
A liiitle bit harsh
Slightly harsher than the skinfood one
Time you should leave it on

None
How soft your skin feels afterward
+
++
Other effects?
none
Kinda reduce blackheads, but nothing much

In Other words:

Reasons to buy Klairs:
- your skin is softer afterward
- doesn't have a suffocating scent
- kinda helps reducing blackheads (nothing much though)
- you don't have to wait 10 min
- Now comes in a large 110g jar

Reasons to buy Skin Food:
- More gentle on the skin
- You get a lot of product (100g) for a little price (around 10$)
- Considerably cheaper especially if you are buying it on line.

My thoughts:
For about 8 months now, whenever they would ask me what is you favorite black sugar scrub my automatic answer would be "KLAIRS Duh!" and I'll go on and on about how gentle and efficient it is in comparison with skinfood, but now that I used them side by side today, I feel like I've been lying to people this whole time saying that Klairs is more gentle when actually it is the harsher one here, so I feel like I owe you guys and explanation:
Skinfood was the first mechanical scrub I have ever used, and after accidentally purchasing 2 jars of the Klairs and receiving a third one for free, I practically abandoned The skinfood Black Sugar Scrub, and you can say that I forgot how it works except that my first impression was "oh this is quite harsh on the skin!". you would say "but you just said that Klairs' is harsher" well yeah you are right but then when I started using it I was already used to black sugar scrubs, so it felt quite gentle xD

What scrub do I prefer now?
Each of them has its cons and pros but I feel like Skinfood Sugar Scrub has a better quality-price ratio (I mean, it is really inexpensive), but if you aren't tight on budget, you might want to go for klairs.
Personally, I'll still go back to Klairs whenever I'll feel that my skin isn't scrubbed enough or when I wanna tone down my blackheads a notch or two.

Where can you buy them?
- Skin Food Black Sugar Wash Off Mask Here* for $9.58
- Klairs Black Sugar Facial Polish Here* for $23 (use my invitation code: 125028803 to get $5 off your first purchase)

So What is your favorite one? lemme know in the comments below.

Although COSRX is my favorite skincare brand so far, and even though I absolutely love the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Essence, it took me sometime to finally get their Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream because when it comes to moisturisers, I just prefer to stick to the ones I trust instead of getting new ones that I probably wouldn't like and just waste my money on. But after losing my precious essence in the airport, I decided to try some of the cream samples I have while I'm waiting for a new one and boy oh boy, I regret not getting my hands on it any sooner. So read on to find out what I liked and disliked about this product.

Description and claims:

Made with all-natural domestic 92% snail secretion filtrate, the Advanced Snail 92 All In One
Cream acts to prevent aging and promote a healthy, rejuvenated skin while keeping in the hydration of a snail cream. Safe to use on any and all kinds of skin due to its nature of only natural,
excellent ingredients.

- Full of collagen to maintain healthy, wrinkle-free skin.
- Snail cream that preserves youth & prevents aging.
- Anti-aging rejuvenation & maintenance.
- Complete hydration without the irritation.

Volume: 100 ml

Ingredients:

Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cetearyl Alcohol, stearic acid, Arginine, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Panthenol, Allantoin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Adenosine, Phenoxyethanol

This cream is made mainly out of snail filtrate, that although it is known for its many benefits, it might cause an allergic reaction, so make sure you aren't allergic to snail mucin first. (I've talked about this ingredient more in the 3rd part of  my Skincare 101 series, so make sure to check it out here ^^ )
In addition to snail filtrate, this cream contains a couple of ingredients that might irritate your skin and cause you acne (according to this CosDNA analysis), so make sure to patch test first before using it on your face (In case you don't know how: use a little of this product on your jaw or under your ear and see if there is any bad reaction to it)

How to use:

- After cleansing, at the last step of your basic care, apply an adequate amount to the face, dividing up the portions and applying each small portion to different areas. Lightly tap the area to help absorption.
- Gently massage the whole face using your palms about 2-3 times to ensure full absorption.

Packaging: 4/10

The packaging is the only downside I personally can point out. This cream comes in a white plastic tub that is kinda the wider version of the old COSRX overnight masks (I reviewed the rice one here if interested), with a spatula and an extra protection lid, but since this cream is more gooey and slippery than the night masks, it kinda leaks out. It's not travel friendly at all since it should be kept laying horizontally.

I just hope they would repackage it like they did to the overnight masks. (I'm gonna probably use a syringe to pour it into a tube instead since it would be much much more convenient to use that way.

Scent: 8/10

It has a really faint smell that I can't point out. It's not herbal, flowery, powdery, fresh or anything lol, just a plain vague smell that I don't think would bother anyone, but who knows.

Texture: 8/10

You can tell that this cream is made out of snail filtrate just by its gooey and slimy consistency, but it's nothing gross so don't worry.
It can be kinda sticky when you first apply it, but once it is fully absorbed there is no stickiness left.

The effects: 9.5/10

I use this cream mainly at night since it makes my skin look more glowing and healthy the next morning, and occasionally in the morning when I wanna use something that grabs my base makeup.

Although it's a cream, it's not nearly as moisturizing as most of the creams I've previously used, so if you are looking for a moisturizer for your dry skin, this is not for you. But since I like layering moisturizers over my skin, I don't really mind this one point since I originally bought it for other purposes anyways: I noticed reduced my redness a lot, my breakouts are less horrible than they usually are at that moment of the month (I rarely ever get pimples on my forehead, nose and left cheek when they are usually the first zones to act up), and my skin looks much more healthier.

As for my sister who has an oily acne prone skin, she thinks that it really moisturizes her skin in this dry harsh winter, without making it greasier but instead making her face produce less sebum that it's used to do, and it helps speed up the healing process of her acne and even reduced her acne scars and faded her dark spots.

Do I recommend it?

If you have a dry skin and are looking for some extremely moisturizing cream for your skin, I wouldn't recommend it.

Other than that, this is a great product if you wanna couple it with the snail essence to reduce your redness, acne scars, dark spots and speed up your pimples' healing process (which I'm doing), or alone if you have an oily skin and are looking for a cream that would moisturize your skin without making it greasier.

But if you are getting this product mainly to take care of your scars and stuff, and had to choose either this cream or the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin essence, then go for the essence since it kinda is more effective in my opinion (and its packaging is way more convenient).
(Let me know If you want me review the essence or make a comparison between these two products)

From where did I get mine?

Given my wonderful skin type, I'm always struggling to find the right moisturizers (yes, plural) that would really hydrate my skin and take care of my dry patches, without making it greasy nor breaking it out... don't you think it's wonderful to have a sensitive, dehydrated, acne prone skin?

Don't know what your skin type is or what ingredients your skin type needs the most? check this Guide!

So like I've mentioned in my previous review, my friend got me a couple of Swanicoco Bitamin C products since she knows my how I like my hydrating products to be, what a huge fan I am to everything Vitamin C related, and how I love Rose scent, so of course (although a little reluctantly), I started using them and not so surprisingly (given that this great friend of mine never chooses the wrong products for me), I ended up actually loving them.

So after reviewing Swanicoco Bitamin C Clam Down Skin Toner here, I'm gonna review the emulsion from the same line today.

Description and claims:

A hypoallergic basic skin care for intensive sensitive skin care.
With Aspergillus/Rice Ferment extract base instead of purified water (just water), it helps overall skin elasticity and prioritizes calming and protection for sensitive skin against irritation along with supply of natural ferment, bio ingredient and nourishment.

Price: 24000 KRW

Volume: 120ml

Ingredients:

Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Glycerin, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Methylpropanediol, Niacinamide, Polysorbate 60, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Allantoin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tetrapeptide-32, Caffeoyl Decapeptide-17, rh-Oligopeptide-1, Saccharomyces/Camellia Japonica Flower/Castanea Crenata Shell/Diospyros Kaki Leaf/Paeonia Suffruticosa Root/Rhus Javanica/Sanguisorba Officinalis Root Extract Ferment Filtrate, Saccharomyces/Ophiopogon Japonicus Root/Panax Ginseng Root/Poria Cocos/Rehmannia Glutinosa Root Ferment Filtrate, Saccharomyces/Viscum Album (Mistletoe) Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract, Saccharomyces/Imperata Cylindrica Root Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Pyrifolia (Pear) Fruit Extract, Musa Sapientum (Banana) Fruit Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Arginine, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sorbitan Olivate, Stearic Acid, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Sodium PCA, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Glyceryl Stearate

What skin type might like this?

this line was developed for:
• Those with thin and sensitive skin.
• Those concerned about rough skin texture.
• Those concerned about dry skin.
• Those who do not want greasy and sticky products.
• Those looking for hypoallergenic natural ingredient product.

Packaging:

Just like the Bitamin C toner (and many of other Swanicoco products), this emulsion comes in a sleek frosted plastic 120ml bottle with simple lettering, and a wide opening to dispense the product (not too wide though. It is bigger than the toner's which it understandable since the emulsion is thicker than the toner obvs, and would be a pain in the derriere to dispense it). It used to come with a pump but since people complained about not being able to use it up, but I think it might have been better if they changed the packaging to a tube since it would be easier to squeeze it out, but maybe not since it's a little too runny? I don't know lol.

It also has some instructions and tips written inside the box, which might be helpful for some of you. Personally, I don't really care about it.

Scent:

One of my favorite smells: Roses (Which means I have to go around looking for it every time I wanna use it because mom thinks "perfumes are too strong for me and this one smells nice", I asked her if I should buy her one but she refused...)

Texture:

It has a creamy yet runny texture (kinda similar to Johnson baby white lotion, if not a tad bid runnier).

Effectiveness:

When I first used it, it reminded me of the It's skin prestige ginseng lotion and Holika Holika Good Cera Ultra emulsion, they all leave the skin soft and hydrated when you first use them, but that's all that's similar imo. The ginseng one broke me out (I  think I might be allergic to ginseng), and the good cera one didn't leave my face hydrated the whole day like this Swanicoco Bitamin C Emulsion does.

It is very light, yet gives a great boost to the skin and leaves it soft and smooth, it also helped with my dry patches, without leaving it extra greasy nor breaking me out.

I like using 2 thin layers of this emulsion in my AM routine since I don't really have time to layer different moisturizing products and waiting for them to absorb, and then use sunscreen (and sometimes a bb cream), and surprisingly it's enough to leave my skin hydrated throughout the day, and prevents my bb cream from caking up around my dry patches. (Note that I doubt it would be enough if I didn't have a long PM skincare routine, but still it's still the best results I could get from an emulsion)

I also noticed that this does a good  job toning down my redness, and kinda evening out my skin tone (it's nothing magical but after using it for weeks, I noticed that the hyper-pigmentation around my mouth is becoming less noticeable)

What's good?

- Soothes my skin and tones down my redness.
- Keeps my skin smooth and hydrated throughout the day
- Silicone free
- Contains Vitamin C
- Takes good care of my dry patches
- Absorbs quickly into the skin, and doesn't leave any extra greasy residue
- Many great fermented ingredients

What's not good?

- Availability.. Only few shops carry this brand, hopefully more brands will start selling it as well soon.

Will I repurchase it?
Duh! is that even a question?

Where to buy?
- Amazon for $27.99

Even though I like trying new products, my basic skincare routine rarely changes since I have a sensitive extremely dehydrated skin, that waits for me to use the wrong product to get even drier and reward me with a nice breakout to top it off. That's why my skincare routine have been centred around three essential brands for years: COSRX, Klairs and Innisfree. So when one of my friends gave me Swanicoco's Bitamin C Calm Down Skin toner, emulsion and essence as an early birthday present last year, I was both excited to try them out and reluctant at the same time, but since I know she has a kinda similar skin to mine and I loved how these products smell like roses, I gave them a shot, and let me tell you: Boy I'm so proud I did. (ok I don't really care for the essence but I love the other two)

So after using them for around 6-7 months and purchasing my second bottle of each of the emulsion and toner, I decided to finally review them. I was initially planning to review both of them at the same time but then thought it wouldn't be fair lol. (You can find the Emulsion's review here btw)

Aspergillus, RH-Oligopeptide-1, sodium ascorbyl phosphate (C1000 ppm of vitamin), sodium hyaluronate, Hydrolized collagen, aloe vera leaf powder, yeast / mistletoe fermentation extract, lactobacillus / soybean fermentation extract, Yeast / roots fermented extract, rice bran extract + rice extract, damask rose oil.

What skin type might like this?

this line was developed for:
• Those with thin and sensitive skin.
• Those concerned about rough skin texture.
• Those concerned about dry skin.
• Those who do not want greasy and sticky products.
• Those looking for hypoallergenic natural ingredient product.

Packaging:

This toner comes in a sleek frosted plastic bottle with simple lettering, and a small opening to dispense the product. It used to come with a pump but since people complained about not being able to use it up, and I'm glad they did. I'm not really fond of pumping type packagings (except for mists of course)
I also have some instructions and tips inside the box, which can be cool if u are the kinda person who throws the box away (you can cut it in half and read them),  as for me,  I can't keep my skincare without the boxes lol. Noway I'm cutting it.

Scent:

It smells like roses mixed with sweet peaches? I can't really explain it but I love it nonetheless (would have loved it more if t smelled like the emulsion)

Texture:

This toner is slightly thicker than water, absorbs quickly into the skin, making it feel smooth and soft without leaving any sticky or greasy residue.

Effectiveness:

So as I've mentioned in some of my previous reviews, Klairs toner (that I reviewed here) has been my HG toner for so long, and rarely used any other toner along the way, until I came across a new toner that I started using instead: well as you might have guessed, I was talking about this toner.

So as my friend told me, it soothes the skin, and makes it smoother and softer, it also helped with my skin elasticity, flakiness, redness and acne. I also feel like my skin is less textured than it was before.

At first, I thought that it was similar to my previous toner (results-wise), but after a couple of months I noticed that my skin reacted to this one even better, which I think is because of the Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate since my skin loves everything Vitamin C related (or maybe it's just because I'm biased).

What's good?

- Alcohol free
- contains Vitamin C
- Great at soothing and cooling the skin
- Hydrating
- Does a good job healing sensitive/damaged skin
- Great for the 7 skin method
- Many great fermented ingredients
- A short ingredient list.

What's not good?

I honestly can't think about anything, except than it's kinda harder to find compared to other toners, but I'm sure it would be available in more places as this brand is getting bigger in name and size.

Will I repurchase it?
Most definitely!

Where to buy?

"What is your favorite skincare brand?" I have been asked this question multiple times and the answer is simple: COSRX. There are many awesome skincare brands/products out there, but COSRX is the only one that has (almost) never disappointed me (and I'm saying almost because their centella water toner was basically as effective as water on the skin..). And today, I'm back to review a product that I have been in love with ever since it was launched.

Description and claims:

As a 3-in-1 mask, the Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask can be used as an overnight mask, a wash off mask, or even as a cream. Enjoy your beauty sleep the right way and pamper your skin today with the Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask !

Via Wishtrend

Volume: 60ml

How to use:

1) As a sleeping maskFor the last step of your routine skin care at night, apply an adequate amount to the entire face and get ready to be amazed by your skin after your beauty sleep ! 2) As a wash off maskApply a generous amount and spread out evenly. After about 15 minutes, wash off with lukewarm water or wipe off with toner. 3) As a creamAfter the last step of your skin care routine, apply as a cream and follow with makeup.

Ingredients:

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Betaine, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) oil, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) Kernel Oil, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Arginine, Carbomer, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum

Check COSDNA Analytics here

What skincare routine step is this?

This is a night pack which means it is used in the end of your night skincare routine. It acts like a film that seals all the goodies in to help your skin get the most of it during your sleep.
But as mentioned in the how to section, it can be used as a cream or a wash off mask as well, depending on what you need.

What skin type might like this?

I think that it suits everybody whatever their skin type is, but those of us with dry and/or dehydrated skin would love it a tad bit more since it really helps with all the flakiness, especially during winter.

Packaging:

Initially, this mask used to come in a jar that wasn't really y fav, it used to leak and as time passed by the mask oxidized and turned yellow, but thankfully last year they decided to make a limited edition packaged in tubes, and when they noticed that people liked it they decided to change it permanently. Yay!

Scent:

It's a rich, white, thick and kinda slippery cream with no real discernible scent, which is always a plus especially if you have a sensitive skin.

Performace:

This cream glides easily on my skin leaving it moist and soft without feeling heavy, and acts as a film that seals all the moisture provided by the skincare products I've layered before using this one, without feeling heavy nor too greasy on the skin, which means I wake up with a nice glowing and soft skin the next morning. I can proudly say "I woke up like this" lol.

I liked this mask the first time I used it, but after approximately a week from using it daily (as a , I knew that I won't be trading it for any other night pack anytime soon (and I was right, I've been using it for 2-3 years now, which rarely happen tbh), because it made my dehydrated skin REALLY plump and bouncy, and started retaining the moisture better than it used to before.

Other than using it as a night pack, I like using it as cream as well by applying a thin layer on my skin (a pea sized amount for the whole face), and my skin is kept moisturized for several hours.

PS: Keep in mind that it's supposed to be used as a night pack which means it needs to be washed off later, otherwise you might end up with little bumps under the skin after using it for a long while without washing it off properly (Like for example if you apply it as a night pack, and in the morning you add another layer without washing your face from your previous night skincare, your skin will feel soft and smooth but in the long run it might be suffocated and start getting clogged pores, milia and even break outs)

What's good?

- Really affordable for the amount of good it does to my skin
- Really moisturizing
- Makes my skin smooth and supple, with no greasy or sticky residue
- In the long run, my skin became plump and bouncy
- a little goes a long way

What's not good?
If you asked me a year ago, my answer would be: The packaging! it used to leak, wasn't hygienic and the product turned yellow after being exposed to the air for so long (as showed in the picture below). But after they started selling it in tubes (and increasing the amount of product you get), I can't honestly thing of anything else to point out.

You can buy it:

  • Amazon for $19.98 (Prime)
  • Wishtrend for $16 (use my invitation code 125028803 upon registration or while checking out your and get $5 off your first order, it must be 25$ or more)

Do I recommend it?
Absolutely ♥ I think it's a must have Korean skincare product!

What is your favorite night pack? and have you ever tried this COSRX night pack before?
