COSRX Oil Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion (with birch sap) Review

by - September 01, 2017

Last year, COSRX came with so many new products for those of us who have a dry or dehydrated skin, and one of these products was their Oil Free Ultra Moisturising Lotion. I had many opened moisturisers back then + the weather was getting warmer so I decided to control the urge to get it and wait until the next fall/winter.
And back in November, I finally got my hands on it since it was included in the COSRX Silky Skin Texture Package that was kindly sent to me by Wishtrend

Description and claims:
Designed with all natural Birch Sap, the OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap is made to improve your skin tone and texture for hydrated, healthier skin. Universally used as the magical ingredient of beauty in urban legends, Birch Sap has been passed down in stories in Russia, Northern Europe, and Japan as the beauty secret of the Queen of the forest, many members of the royal family, and the Fountain of Youth. So diverge in the Birch Sap story and see the magical results for yourself !
The omnipotent, all-in-one OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap is designed to hydrate with excellent spreadability to easily absorb into the skin for a smooth, silky finish. Perfectly designed for oily, dry, and sensitive skin, the OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion improves skin reconstruction while repairing damaged skin to enhance the appearance of your skin tone and texture.

Price: 19000 KRW

Volume: 100ml

How to use:
1) Day & night, after cleansing, prep the skin with toner and apply a thin layer, avoiding the eyes and lips.
2) Reapply on areas experiencing severe dryness.
3) OIL-FREE Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion can be used with all other BHA, AHA or Vitamin C items without skin irritation.

Ingredients:

Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/, Sodium Acryloyldimethyl, Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Lactate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Panthenol, Xanthan Gum, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

As you can see, this isn't actually completely oil free as it claims...

What skin type might like this?
All skin types as far as I know. I have a dehydrated skin and I love this (but I had to layer something else on top of it at night during the winter), and my sister has an oily/combination skin and she likes it as well, she only applies a thin layer (one pump) though.

Packaging:

This lotion comes in a typical COSRX bottle: a simple yet sleek frosted hard bottle with a pump and a clear cap. And like most of their moisturizing products, the colors are white and light blue.

Scent:
This has a quite strong scent that fades quickly after the application. It has a pleasant citrusy-herbal scent that I personally like, but it might bother you. (if you have already tried the COSRX One Step Pimple Clear Pads, they smell exactly the same)

Texture:
This lotion has a lightweight gel texture. It absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn't leave any sticky residue.

Effectiveness:
This lotion is definitely more hydrating than I thought it would be, yet is super lightweight. It spreads out easily all over the face and gets absorbed by the skin quickly without leaving any greasy residue.
I think this lotion can be used by almost all skin types, but in different amounts. When my skin is feeling extra dry, I can apply up to 3 pumps of this lotion (don't apply it all at once but layer it instead: apply one pump, let it absorb into the skin, and then a second and a third), and I use less when my skin doesn't feel as dry. for those whom skins are on the oilier side, you can use 1 pump only, this way you'll get the moisture your skin needs without overdoing it.
As for those of you with extremely oily skin, I would absolutely recommend the COSRX Snail Mucin 92 All In One Cream (that I've reviewed here already) instead, since it would moisturize your skin AND control your sebum secretion as well.

What's good?
- Moisturizing without being too much on the skin
- Lightweight
- Easily absorbed by the skin
- Doesn't leave a greasy or a sticky residue
- 100ml of products that would last me for ages, for a reasonable price
- Smells good (at least for me)

What's not good?
There are none for me. (but for those with extremely oily skin, they might want to get something even lighter)

Will I repurchase it?
Most definitely!

Where to buy?
